Brian Stokoe Outstanding Stroke Survivors Award

The Stroke Central Region Council  are proud to announce - The Brian Stokoe Outstanding Stroke Survivor Award, which was initiated in 2008 in memory of Brian who was an outstanding Stroke Survivor. Despite disability after a severe Stroke, Brian approached everything in life with great tenacity and a wonderful sense of humour. A Regional Councilor for six years and the President of his local Sub- Region for eight years, Brian worked very hard to ensure that the best quality of life for people who survived stroke was sought and applied where ever possible.

Applications are invited from the Stroke Community for the nomination of people who, like Brian show tenacity in fighting back after stroke. As it is often the case after stroke, people take some time to reach their goals. Therefore, the Regional Council have set the application time over a ten year period and are looking for people who can demonstrate to others that goals can be attained and dreams fulfilled after devastating life changes.

Nominees must be members to the Stroke Central Region Inc. They can be Stroke Club members or direct members. They must be nominated by two members of  Stroke Central Region Inc and the citation must be signed off by their local Sub-Region. Where no Sub-Region exists application can still be made and signed off by a Regional Councilor or the CEO Central Region (details from Field Officer).

The Award will be presented annually at the Annual General Meeting along with a smaller replica. The Award should be returned to the Central Region Council prior to the AGM each year in preparation for presentation. The replica of the award is a keepsake for all successful awardees.

The 2013 recipient of the Brian Stokoe 'Outstanding Stroke Survivor' is Rick Lowe from Waikanae.
